Hari Kara is an industrial designer with a diverse experience in product, lighting and space design. He joined Symbiosis in 2024 as an adjunct faculty and conducts courses in product form, systems design, complex product design and design futures.

Since 2021, Hari runs an independent design studio and a lighting brand ‘Bhilight’. Prior to that, he was the head of product design department at MIT Institute of Design spanning four years and was instrumental in developing one of the most sought-after design innovation programs in the country. His industry experience has largely been in product and retail design in Bangalore and in the aviation industry in The Netherlands. His overall experience is 20+ years. Hari’s education is a blend of design and manufacturing with an MS in Integrated Product Design from TU Delft, The Netherlands (2009) and a BE in Industrial Production Engineering from GIT Belgaum (1999).

Hari’s designs have been featured in several magazines and online platforms. For his creations at Bhilight, Hari won the EDIDA India Award 2022 (Sustainability). Hari has lectured at World Skills forum (2020) as an expert in industrial design from India. He has conducted many online and offline talks and workshops at various design schools and platforms.
