Shilpkatha, SID’s annual Craft Sustenance initiative is scheduled to take place on 4th & 5th October, 2019 at Symbiosis Viman Nagar Campus, Pune. This is an event born out of the intensive craft documentation carried on by the students of all disciplines. It’s not simply a sustenance event, but also a reflection of the students’ journey discovering the art and craft of India. The experiences are presented by the students through different mediums, and are displayed around the campus for visitors to view.
The event is an amalgamation of pre-existing talents and the fresh ones, the result of which is heterogeneous artistic composition. The event takes form of a mela, where the artisans not only exhibit their work but also give us a glimpse of the design process through demonstrations.
This year, Odisha with its deep cultural roots became the center of discovery. We have invited various artisans who will share with us their experiences and give us an opportunity to interact with them.
A land of rich and diverse artistic achievements, Odisha's art and culture is the product of a long historical process. A process in which the spiritual, philosophical, and humane dimensions of the land have merged, only to yield the finest product of tradition and civilized life. The heritage of Odisha is reflected in its vibrant art forms. Having visited the state to document the various crafts, our students clearly witnessed how culture flows as an under-current of inspiration, and gives flavours to even daily mundane life. How in today's world too, art, culture and design is a powerful link in the chain of human fellowship and the thriving of a community, a nation and its people.
