Since the year 2008, the Fashion department at SID has been celebrating India's renowned textile crafts through its annual event 'Timeless De Tour'. The institutional objective of this event was to conserve and bring about a product diversification of the Indian textile crafts. India has such a rich craft culture spanning all areas of crafts such as wood, metal, textile, leather and many more. Thus, this year onwards, we have decided to extend the scope of this craft documentation initiative towards non textile crafts of India as well. Thus, we present to you our Craft Documentation event with a new identity and form as ‘SHILP KATHA 2013’. This year, along with the Fashion Design students who explored the Textile crafts of various states, the Fashion Communication students have also explored some non-textile crafts of our country. The crafts covered this year are Terracotta jewelry of Kolkata, Motibharat and Mata ni Pachedi of Gujarat, Telia Rumal of Andhra Pradesh, Bagru block printed textiles, Gond painting of Madhya Pradesh, Palm Leaf basketry of Tamil Nadu and so on. The garments / products have been designed and developed by the students of Fashion Design-Batch 2011-2015 and the styling, brand identity and exhibition have been conceptualized and put up by the students of Fashion Communication-Batch 2011-2015.
