Professor Rohini Sawant holds a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from Nagpur University and a Master’s in Industrial Design from MIT Institute of Design, Pune. Before transitioning to academia, she gained extensive industry experience in retail, exhibition, and furniture design.

Her professional journey includes roles as Head Retail Architect at Ergo Design Pvt. Ltd, Bengaluru (2013–2016), where she designed retail spaces, exhibitions, and lifestyle products for clients like ELGI and ATS. She standardized retail store designs, created exhibition displays, and developed furniture for corporate spaces. Earlier, as a Retail Architect at Studio J (2012–2013), she designed apparel stores for brands like Twills, Puma, and CODE, along with high-end residential interiors. She also contributed to innovative furniture and lifestyle product design at AKFD Studio, Jaipur as intern.

Since 2016, Rohini has dedicated herself to teaching, bringing corporate insights into education. She spent six years as an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Design Education and Architectural Studies, Nagpur, teaching subjects like Basic Design, Architectural Design, Construction, Ergonomics, guided students for Architectural thesis and Architectural Documentation. In 2021, she joined Symbiosis School of Planning, Architecture, and Design (SSPAD), Nagpur, and fulfilled various roles of handling and coordinating foundation courses, taught courses like Design Process thinking, Craft Documentation, retail Design, Ergonomics, Exhibition Design, Furniture Design etc.

Her research interests include Indian architecture, crafts, and heritage conservation, with projects like documenting Paithani weavers and promoting Melghat’s bamboo craft. She also explores emotional intelligence and board games as educational tools for children.

Currently, as part of Symbiosis Institute of Design, she continues to inspire students in Interior Design, Exhibition Design, and Furniture Design, blending academic rigor with real-world expertise.
