Majors-Minors Pathway
At Symbiosis Institute of Design (SID), we believe that design education should give students the freedom to explore, specialize and build capabilities across specializations. Our undergraduate curriculum is structured to provide a strong foundation in design while allowing students to shape their academic journey according to their interests and aspirations.

Our 160-credit B.Des. programme combines focused disciplinary learning with interdisciplinary courses, internships, skill development and opportunities for broader exploration.

Students can pursue their undergraduate education through two academic pathways:

Pure Specialization Pathway
Students can deepen their expertise in their chosen discipline through core disciplinary courses, supported by multidisciplinary courses covering design fundamentals, internships, skills and ability enhancement. Students undertake deepening specialization courses along with 6 to 8 design projects intended to sharpen their independent design vision.

Major–Minor Pathway
Our Major–Minor structure encourages students to look beyond disciplinary boundaries and create combinations that reflect their interests and future aspirations. Students can complement their primary discipline with a secondary area of study. Eligible students can pursue a Major specialization in their chosen discipline and a Minor in another specialization, along with multidisciplinary courses. This pathway enables students to develop depth in one area while gaining meaningful exposure to another.

Students can:
  • Develop a strong primary area of expertise through their Major.
  • Explore a secondary area through a Minor.
  • Engage with students and ideas from different design disciplines.
  • Build interdisciplinary capabilities through cross-disciplinary learning.
  • Connect different perspectives and approaches to design.
  • Enhance their readiness for diverse and evolving professional opportunities.
Through Major–Minor learning, students have opportunities for interdisciplinary interaction and cross-pollination of ideas, enabling them to understand how different design disciplines can inform and enrich one another.
